History of Mother's Day Celebration

History of mother's day
EBI-Mother's Day is a holiday that is celebrated annually to honor and appreciate mothers and motherhood. The history of Mother's Day can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans, who held festivals to honor their mother goddesses, Rhea and Cybele.

However, the modern Mother's Day originated in the United States, thanks to Anna Jarvis. In 1908, Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother, Ann Jarvis, who was a social activist and had worked to improve health and sanitation conditions in her community. After her mother's death, Anna Jarvis began campaigning for a national holiday to honor mothers and their contributions to society.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. The holiday became increasingly popular, and other countries began adopting it as well. Today, Mother's Day is celebrated in countries all over the world, although the date and traditions may vary.

Over the years, the commercialization of Mother's Day has been a subject of criticism, with some people arguing that it has become too commercialized and has lost its original meaning. Nonetheless, the holiday remains an important occasion for many people to show their love and appreciation for their mothers.
